低煙無鹵阻燃聚烯烴電纜料通常由聚烯烴共混樹脂加阻燃填充劑氫氧化鋁、氫氧化鎂和一些為了提高耐熱壽命而添加的適量抗氧劑組合而成。有時為了降低其燃燒時的發(fā)煙量，還加入了一些發(fā)煙抑制劑，如釩、鎳、鉬、鐵、硅、氮系化合物。
其阻燃機(jī)理為：燃燒時，阻燃填充劑氫氧化鋁、氫氧化鎂會釋放出結(jié)晶水，吸收大量熱量；與此同時，脫水反應(yīng)會產(chǎn)生大量水蒸汽，它可以稀釋可燃性氣體，從而阻止燃燒，另外會在材料表面形成一層不熔不燃的氧化物硬殼，阻斷了高聚物與外界熱氧反應(yīng)的通道，終材料阻燃、自熄。
